In a World of Overwhelm

In an overwhelming world, "Difficult roads lead to beautiful destinations."

This has become my theme lately as one thing then another comes up. And my goal is to keep life as simple as possible, as the title of this blog indicates. So, I put away the carpet cleaner in June, which means 3 rooms of carpet never got cleaned and likely won't be deep cleaned this year. I am exploring new and much easier venues for carpet and upholstery cleaning. Of course, when I find one that works decently well, I'll share it with you on this blog, because that is the theme of this blog - helping other women simplify their lives.

My family and I are on a journey right now that feels slightly difficult at times. But we all know the beautiful destination is around the corner. More likely several beautiful destinations. So, I'm not complaining, just explaining my recent disappearing act.

I'm still here, but my time is limited for the time being. I have a few projects to finish for Etsy. And after experiencing nearly 2 months of agonizing eye pain that began in the middle of May this year, our younger son was finally diagnosed with 3 eye diseases that can never be cured but can be maintained with vitamin C and very special eye drops. Every month, as his eyes form new corneas, symptoms will be different and the agonizing pain can come back at any time if his corneas malform or if his eyes get too dry, causing the retina to rip. When that happens, he is literally blind because his vision is not only blurred beyond seeing, but he isn't able to open his eyes for extended periods of time. For now, though, he is stable and experiencing milder dry eye with halo vision. He will have to see his ophthalmologist at least every 3 to 6 months for the rest of his life - sooner when he experiences relapse. He also has to avoid windy environments. So, if he goes outside, he must always wear wrap around sunglasses to protect not only drying out his eyes from wind but also to avoid tiny objects from flying into his eyes, because that might cause him to need to rub his eyes, which is the ultimate of "don'ts" in his new life of  cornea and retina weaknesses. Also, screen time has to be limited to avoid drying out his eyes. He's managing this well though and takes every precaution to avoid as many relapses as possible.

Next, my  husband was just diagnosed with kidney and bladder stones during an ER visit last week. Now, a week later we're waiting on the referred doctor's office to get back to us with an appointment to see  how we handle this situation which involves a 1.6 centimeter stone inside his bladder. I called them the very next day after the ER visit, but they wouldn't make the appointment until they received the information from the ER. I feel they could have made the appointment, giving the hospital time to send the information they need for his appointment. But that's me. If it were my office, that's how I would handle it. So, basically, we are in the "hurry up and wait" mode of his diagnosis.

With this being said, I guess I really can't concentrate on blogging at the moment. As a matter of fact, all writing is at a stand still, including my books. I have actually updated my free eBook, Learn how to Create a Website from Google Blogger, but I want to go through it carefully and make sure the edits make sense and that no other edits are needed for this update. And the edits for the eBook I want to start selling on Amazon next year are going slowly right now too.

So, I ask for your prayers and patience as I work through this season of my life. And as always, thank you for dropping by to read my post today.

God bless you,

Patricia

Charcoal Grilling Recipe for Beef Kebabs

Grilled Beef Kebabs AKA Kababs or Kabobs As I've already mentioned, grilling is my newest hobby . I call it a hobby; otherwise, I wouldn't do it because a lot of time is required to prep. Grilling is meant to get me outdoors more, so yes, it is a hobby. Someone recently told me that they enjoy grilling because it's so much easier and there is less cleanup. I'm not sure how that can be unless they simply add something onto the grill without prepping it with flavor. Gas grilling may be slightly easier since no prepping is needed to heat it up as with a charcoal grill. However, I'm not 100% sure about that. And honestly, I use more dishes for grilling than I normally would for cooking on my kitchen stove. But the flavors and connecting with nature are so worth it. Directions for these beef kebabs are for the charcoal grill.   But they can also be made in the oven or on a gas grill as well, using your own judgment for cooking times. This cook involves open-fire cooking,

Backyard Wildlife Adventures

Watching our backyard wildlife is a favorite pastime at our house. We have a birdhouse that the bluebirds occupy most of the spring. A few years back, we had 4 different bird couples nest in the birdhouse. Besides the bluebirds that year, we also had Carolina wrens, barn swallows, and black capped chickadees. We used to set out birdseed and had a birdbath to attract more backyard avian such as the titmouse, cardinal, blue jay, cedar waxwing, house finch, goldfinch, wren, barn swallow, black capped chickadee, and others. We eventually had to take down the bird feeder and remove the birdbath, because the squirrels, crows, pigeons, and grackles discovered our little bird paradise and would leave nothing for the birds we wanted to attract. Since removing those items, we still have the occasional cardinal, blue jay, goldfinch and house finch drop by - just not in abundance like we used to. And the woodpeckers that came around frequently stopped coming by when we took down the feeder and bi

Cast Iron Skillet Care

OMG! I bought a cast iron skillet. I thought this would be great to share with you this morning . I got my Lodge brand skillet at my local grocery store for about $10 less than I could buy it from Amazon. I didn't find out until I researched that Lodge is the best brand on the market according to other bloggers.  First thing you need to know is that you can't let these skillets get wet beyond washing them. Because they will rust. The second thing you need to know is these need to be seasoned with vegetable oil. So, even though my skillet was seasoned at the factory, I did have to wash it as soon as I got it home, because there was no covering on it. Everybody who was curious about a cast iron skillet had touched it before I bought it. Okay, probably not many people, but in my imagination, only 1 other person touching it was enough to warrant a thorough washing.  Once washed, I dried it with a completely dry dish towel - not one I had just dried my hands or other dishes with.
